The idea is simple - reclaim old wood, restore its beauty and character, and repurpose it into heirloom quality furniture.
Scattered across the country are structures that were once integral parts of our nation's industrial period, a time when past generations toiled in textile plants, factories and mills to build a better life for their families. Many of the massive old buildings that housed these businesses have long since been abandoned. They are not considered historically significant and are often in locations where renovation or restoration would be futile. These buildings do, however, contain a wealth of beautiful old wood.
Rich in history, this resplendent aged timber, reclaimed from buildings built in America between 1860 and 1960, is transformed into environmentally conscious, solid wood creations of the highest quality. The lumber is renewed through a meticulous, multi-step milling process to make it ready for use in furniture construction; yet, the integrity and spirit of the wood’s history are preserved to showcase its distinct character.
Decades of weathering in factories, mills and warehouses have produced a rich character and patina in this vintage timber, which offers unique characteristics related to its age or prior function. These characteristics in no way compromise the quality and durability of these pieces; instead, they are special features that add interest and value to each unique piece, which has its own “personality” as it relates to the wood’s physical features and origin.
The provenance of the lumber is carefully researched and tracked from reclamation to rebirth in order to share its story with the purchaser - each piece of furniture comes with a Certificate of Authentication, providing the customer with a history of the building from which the wood originated.
