Man of Spirit Creek - Marc Pierce Sculpture
This "Man of Spirit Creek" sculpture is meticulously handcrafted by artists based on Marc Pierce's own life experiences. Each piece comes with a copy of the story from which it was inspired:
"If you backed up time to when I was in Junior High study hall (a long time ago) and grabbed the book out of my hand, it's ninety-nine percent likely that it would be about mountain men, western explorers, trappers or the like. I knew more about Kit Carson, Zebulon Pike, Jim Bridger and John Coulter than I did about my sisters. I wanted to be Kit Carson and would have "trapper rendezvous" with my barely-willing school buddies in our suburban Chicago woods. Mountain men were in fact some of the most rugged and most individualist folks in American history. Sure, war heroes were tough, but mountain men were just as tough plus and had intimate familiarity with the natural world and Indian culture. All those books from the school library planted seeds in my fertile mind that, I believe, eventually led to my residency in Montana. This design is a portrait of consummate mountain man imagery: confident, independent, and tough."
